Help for Village Halls

RAY can offer village halls and parish councils a variety of help, from support and advice to direct consultancy work or neighbourhood and community-led planning.

We host events throughout the year aimed at encouraging village halls, community centres, organisations and parish councils to network and co-operate with one another to reach mutual goals. This could be the collaborative sharing of ideas, initiatives, information or contacts. By participating in our networking events, you can get the best answer to your questions quickly and easily, directly from volunteers and organisations in the same boat.

RAY Membership and member-only resources

Becoming a member is the best way to get help from RAY, but you can also attend our free networking events to bring your community's concerns to the table and rub shoulders with other village halls and organisations from across Yorkshire. These are open to the general public and light refreshments are always on hand.

When you have joined RAY, you have access to our Village Hall information sheets and all resources, available here. You will need a login to access these documents, so please get in touch if you have not received yours.

Village Hall Networks

Our Village Hall Networks are opportunities for those involved in running rural community buildings to get together, share their experiences and problems, hear about new resources and policy development, and explore topics of interest in more detail together. You don't need to be a member of Rural Action Yorkshire to attend, and you're welcome to come along from outside the District if the date and venue happen to be convenient for you. Meetings are hosted by Network members and members also set the agenda. Village Hall Networks currently operate in several districts of North Yorkshire. Forthcoming meetings are as follows:

Harrogate: Date to be confirmed - late Spring, Kirkby Malzeard Mechanics Institute, doors open at 09.30, meeting starts at 10.00 and finishes at 12.00.

We also have networks in Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough, Hambleton Districts, and we are working on setting up a new network in Selby District.

If you would like to come to or host a Network meeting, or have an idea for an agenda item, please contact Kathryn Chapman via email or by calling 0845 313 0270 / 01904 704177.

You can also check out our AGM which takes place once a year, primarily for members but also open to the general public, and is a review of the year's work, new ideas, and includes workshops and training that you can attend on a variety of subjects relating to rural areas. It is also another opportunity to meet volunteers in the same boat, coping with the same issues in their community, and reaching solutions together with the aid of RAY.

Village Halls Google Group

Wherever you are in Yorkshire, between Network Meetings you can keep in touch with other village halls, share ideas, problems and experiences, chat about new issues or even find or offer second-hand equipment and furniture by joining our Google Group, RAY's online forum for village halls and other community buildings. You will need to set up a Google account to join - if you haven't got an email address for your village hall why not set one up at the same time? Just get in touch with us if you have any problems!

52 Things Campaign

For all other events offered by RAY or our partners, our homepage is updated regularly with the latest forthcoming events, but you can also keep an eye on our Twitter feed and our Events Calendar for all other areas of interest.
