RAY boosted by donation from Santander Foundation

Rural Action Yorkshire (RAY) has received £4,258 to fund additional hours for frontline delivery staff (182 hrs over 6 months) plus £600 for travel expenses, to extend support for older and vulnerable people in Doncaster.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

The grant will enable RAY to extend staff time on its current Doncaster Community Connect project, funded by Doncaster Council and Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group, meaning more assistance for those at risk of social isolation and loneliness.

Wayne Munro-Smith, Project Co-ordinatorat RAY said: “Doncaster Community Connect uses innovative technology such as a bespoke app to support older and vulnerable people at risk of social isolation, especially over Christmas time. Community agents also work across Doncaster to identify those most at risk, and to provide helpful and non-intrusive intervention. The Santander grant is a hugely positive boost to the project, and enable this project to continue to operate at a high level.”

Sarah Websterat Santander Foundation said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK. Our York branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Rural Action Yorkshire and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
