New events in June to help Community Buildings become Community Friendly

Forthcoming events as part of Rural Action Yorkshire's Community Friendly Buildings Project are taking place later in June. The events will help those buildings who have signed up or expressed an interest in the project learn more, find out what other sources of help are available, and get one-to-one support completing grant application and monitoring forms. The events will take place on Thursday 18 June at Newby and Scalby Community Hall near Scarborough and on Tuesday 23 June at Almscliffe Hall in Huby, near Harrogate.

This event is being organised by RAY as part of our Community Friendly Buildings Project, which helps community buildings develop new service and project ideas that will help them reach new audiences in their local community, by making their building more accessible to those local people who are older and may be vulnerable or at risk of social isolation. Some of the emphasis of the project is on making community buildings and activities accessible to those living with dementia.

The event is aimed both at those buildings who have already signed up to be part of the CFB project and those who may be interested in developing their own ideas outside the project. The event will feature presentations and training sessions from RAY projects and other organisations which can provide you with information, guidance and support on a range of subjects from funding to being dementia-friendly, while RAY staff will be on hand to talk to halls in one-to-one private surgeries to help you with issues such as completing small grant application forms and monitoring project use (for those already signed up to the CFB project).

Please note that the two events will cover similar ground, so there is no need to attend both.

There will also be a showcase event taking place in August (near Pickering, details TBC) at which community buildings signed up to the CFB project can showcase their new activity, share their experiences, and talk with others about ideas for continuing their new projects in the longer term. A similar showcase event as part of the separately-funded CFB project in the Richmondshire, Hambleton and Whitby CCG area will also take place in July (details TBC). Halls not signed up to either CFB project will also be welcome to attend either of these events to learn more about how they too can introduce new projects and services and make their halls more accessible to new audiences. Full details of these events will appear on this website soon.

All are welcome to attend any of these events. To help us plan the event schedule and to arrange suitable catering, please book a place or express your interest in attending in advance by emailing Community Friendly Buildings Officer James Russell or by calling 0845 313 0270 with details of which event(s) you would like to attend, who is attending, any dietary requirements, and any particular areas of information you would be interested in hearing about, as soon as possible.
