Mapping Broadband in Tankersley
If you live or work in rural Penistone, or in Tankersley, get in touch and register your broadband speed.
With high speed broadband becoming an increasing need for businesses and diversification of business in rural areas, it is more important than ever those rural areas have access to high speed broadband connections.
Tankersley and Pilley are rural communities in Barnsley close to junction 36 of the M1 motorway. Despite the proximity to transport links, the speeds of broadband access in the area differ dramatically from household to household. Tankersley and Pilley are served by the Hoyland exchange and due to the distance of the villages from the exchange with the current technology broadband speeds are slow.
Barnsley M.B.C. Penistone East Ward Councillor Robert Barnard is currently trying to build up a picture of broadband speeds across the Penistone area. Wortley, Thurgoland, Green Moor and Crane Moor are served by the Stocksbridge exchange and as with then exchange at Hoyloand there are no current plans to upgrade the service.
To contact Councillor Barnard email cllrrobertbarnard@barnsley.gov.uk
In addition Tankersley Parish Council are currently requesting that residents log their broadband speed with them so they can map the difference in local service.
