Enthusiasm for Community Buildings Networks Continues to Grow

The North Yorkshire Rural Voice project to develop community halls and buildings networks continues to be well received.

So far this year four network meetings have been held and more have been arranged across North Yorkshire over the coming months.

The first meeting of the Whitby area network took place at Hinderwell Village Hall, with a small group of community buildings representatives braving the snow. Andy Ryland gave a presentation on marketing and during the open question time a lively discussion took place over difficulties with leases. Andy also provided one to one advice on using social media to promote village halls.

The fifth meeting of the Ryedale network was held at Scagglethorpe Village Hall; with a fascinating and useful presentation on insurance for community buildings by Steven Swift of McClarrons. Issues of concern for committees included: the new HMRC forms for gift aid, leases and the importance of making sure all committee members and people involved in decision making are listed as trustees.

The next Ryedale area network will be held at Thixedale Village Hall on 11th September at 7pm with the main presentation being on financial management.

It’s really pleasing to see the enthusiasm people have for the network meetings and how much people appreciate being free to ask questions or to share their experience both good and bad on managing their building.

The presentations have all been well received and with people wanting to meet again demonstrating the value that people place on the networks.

So look out for a community buildings network meeting in your area and encourage someone from your village hall or community building to attend, you never know what useful tips and ideas they will return with.
