This week Wheldrake Village Hall lost its roof in the storms. Their group of volunteers is now really stretched trying to tackle the practical side of their crisis and need to urgently raise funds to get the roof put back on so the hall can be used again. Rural Action Yorkshire is delighted to announce that it is working with Ruth and Neil Hannah of Musical Memories to offer free social singing sessions in community buildings across the Ryedale district. Musical Memories sessions provide local residents, especially older people, the opportunity to get together in a social setting, make new friends, reminisce about past times, and even get some exercise! They also provide those who care for an older person a great chance either for a break or to take part in an activity with the person they care for outside of the home.

RURAL communities took centre stage at an event organised by Rural Action Yorkshire last month, attended by MPs, the Bishop of Ripon, and charity and voluntary sector professionals.

A new website, Data North Yorkshire, has been launched by a partnership of local authorities and other organisations. As well as offering a one-stop-shop for all sorts of useful data on a wide range of subjects, the website also offers Parish Councils the opportunity to meet new transparency regulations without having to set up their own website.
