Musical Memories in Ryedale - new project resource

Rural Action Yorkshire is delighted to announce that it is working with Ruth and Neil Hannah of Musical Memories to offer free social singing sessions in community buildings across the Ryedale district. Musical Memories sessions provide local residents, especially older people, the opportunity to get together in a social setting, make new friends, reminisce about past times, and even get some exercise! They also provide those who care for an older person a great chance either for a break or to take part in an activity with the person they care for outside of the home.

Ruth and Neil have trialled the Musical Memories sessions in their own local community and, following lots of positive feedback have decided to roll the project out further afield. They approached RAY and we were only too happy to contribute to this fantastic idea by publicising it to our existing network of community buildings and other rural communtiy contacts.

Community buildings that wish to take part in the project will need to be able to host a total of six sessions in a warm room, and be able to promote the scheme locally to ensure around ten beneficiaries attend each session. They should also be willing to act as the initial point of contact for people wanting to book a place at one of the sessions.

In return, Ruth and Neil at Musical Memories will run the sessions, providing all materials and resources. They will also manage the attendance register and get feedback from those who attend. If the sessions prove successful, RAY will then work with Musical Memories and the community building to investigate potential sources of funding that would enable the sessions to continue.
