HEATING OIL users are being urged to purchase their winter supply now in order to get the best deal before prices rise during the cold season. 

NEW FUNDING has become available in the fight to combat rural loneliness across parts of North Yorkshire. In the effort to respond to the needs of older residents, village halls are being encouraged to become the centre of community life.

Rural Action Yorkshire (RAY) has launched a new drive to encourage more people to share skills with neighbours, friends and those who may be more isolated in their community.  The Rural Skill Share is inviting people to pledge some time and know-how, whether this is ten minutes, or something more regular, to support someone learn something new such as emailing a photograph, or changing a fuse.  RAY believes each person who signs up has the potential to make a really positive impact on those they help.

Village halls and other community buildings across rural North Yorkshire are being invited to send representatives to an event showcasing the experiences of seven new Community Hubs.  Charity Rural Action Yorkshire (RAY) has supported these pilot groups in turning their community buildings into Community Hubs where all aspects of community life can take place. The free event will be held on Saturday 23 November at Pannal Village Hall near Harrogate.

Older drivers in rural parts of Wakefield have another chance to brush up on their confidence under the car bonnet, as part of a drive by the Touchstones project to keep them safer on the roads this winter.
