Assistant Director - Care & Support (x2) / Health & Integration - NYCC

We are looking to appoint Assistant Directors in the Health and Adult Services Directorate with vision, leadership and the drive to meet challenges head on, with the ability to work successfully with key stakeholders and take managers and staff with us; have a strong performance focus. Several recent post-holders have moved into Director posts, based on their Assistant Director experience with us and these posts will undoubtedly provide you with a bigger stage on which to make your mark.

We are looking for practical, imaginative people who can make the weather: shaping services for the future, influencing partners and ensuring that what we do develops our workforce and delivers both savings and in year financial balance.

The three Assistant Director appointments are being made at an exciting time. You will have the opportunity to join a mature and supportive organisation and to help shape both the practice and service changes that are taking place and to help us finalise our new organisational structure.

With an ageing demographic that’s five years ahead of the rest of the country – a third of the population will be over 65 in just over 20 years. North Yorkshire has reshaped services to prepare for the future, investing in prevention, reablement and independence, such as the flagship extra care programme, even in times of austerity. It’s a proactive approach; changing practice to be consistently strength-based, with greater integration across services and partners with a focus on helping people to live longer, healthier independent lives. The council has a strong track record of delivery but guards against complacency by anticipating changes and constantly looking for ways to improve. We keep the customer at the heart of our services, with people increasingly able to serve themselves, make choices and retain their independence.  We have moved in this direction with some success and now we are taking this to the next level. Delivering services across an area is vast and varying as North Yorkshire is a challenge and the remoteness of some rural communities can also exacerbate issues of isolation and loneliness. If the local authority is to continue delivering high quality provision at low cost, it will need senior staff with the vision, leadership and the drive to meet challenges head on.

These roles are not for the fainthearted, but the rewards are high; North Yorkshire is a beautiful place to live not least due to the outstanding natural beauty, but also due to the varied lifestyle which we can offer you and your family.
