Chancellor urged to issue Budget VAT refund scheme to village hall charities

Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) is urging Government to pledge £3 million in the Budget to refund the VAT paid by village halls on improvement work such as modern kitchen and toilet facilities and new meeting rooms.

Hundreds of phone boxes set to be closed in rural Yorkshire

BT is currently consulting on the proposed removal of hundreds of its phone boxes from a number of locations across our regions. Consultations are being managed by each local authority, and views on the proposed list of removals are being sought. Communities are also being given the chance to adopt a phone box and convert it to other uses such as housing a defibrillator or hosting a micro-library.

Influential new govt body launches first report on fuel poverty

The Committee on Fuel Poverty, a new government advisory group established earlier this year to help reduce fuel poverty, has published its first report. In it the Committee identifies six key outcomes that need to be reached in order to achieve the government's fuel poverty reduction targets, and makes a total of fifteen initial recommendations as to what actions need to be taken over the coming years.

Charities gear up for winter round two

CHARITIES AND ORGANISATIONS working to improve affordable warmth are getting ready for their second winter as part of Warm and Well in North Yorkshire.

All of the organisations taking part in the project are experts in fuel poverty and at improving cold homes, but this is their second winter working together under the ‘Warm and Well’ joint initiative.
