Is community-led housing the answer to the need for more decent affordable homes in rural areas?

Rural Housing Week shines a spotlight on the need for more affordable, good quality housing across Yorkshire. Rural Action Yorkshire and the North and East Yorkshire Rural Housing Enabler Network (RHE Network) today launch a new initiative to help communities to look at solving the problem in their own village or market town by taking forward community-led housing solutions.

Hudswell to get new rented housing for local people

A rural community supported by Rural Action Yorkshire's Community-Led Housing project has announced that it has secured planning permission for a new housing development to provide affordable rented housing to local people. It will be the first development of its type in North Yorkshire.

Influential new govt body launches first report on fuel poverty

The Committee on Fuel Poverty, a new government advisory group established earlier this year to help reduce fuel poverty, has published its first report. In it the Committee identifies six key outcomes that need to be reached in order to achieve the government's fuel poverty reduction targets, and makes a total of fifteen initial recommendations as to what actions need to be taken over the coming years.

Impact of Neighbourhood Planning "mixed" says report

A new report has identified a mixed impact of Neighbourhood Planning since the concept's introduction as part of the Government's Localism drive in the last Parliament. It also charts a significant recent rise in new housing in Neighbourhood Planning areas.
